Default New type of spike group?

Alright, so today I was working in Tombs trying to find a whole bunch of mesmers...

My idea revolved around the skill energy surge which when maxed out drains 10 energy and deals 8 damage for each point drained to every foe surrounding your target...that means one spell can do 80 damage to a pretty wide area of effect.

I first tried 6 mesmers, all equipped with energy surge, and the idea was that if all of the 6 mesmers surged a target with a lot of energy (elementalist e.g. with usually a minimum of 60 energy) we could deal out 480 damage to surrounding foes. Quite a few characters would be dead at this point, and the entire team would have a whole lot of healing to accomplish after one spell.

Then with mesmers being annoying as they are, they could quickly finish off targets with health values around 100 at most. You could combine the original surge with your arcane echo and a switch to a target with more mana, and you might be able to finish off everyone else with the next spell and victim.

I tried this with some PUGs and it worked fairly successfully. I know I'm not the best organized and the team I was working with probably wasn't the best either, but I think if some of you more organized people and guilds took at a look at this, you might have a really good strategy.

I also have no idea if people have tried this before, but I think it's a new idea.

NERF NERF NERF!

Sounds like a viable build with some teamwork and coordination :-)

Spike groups are over rated. Virtually any direct damage spell can be used like this. Shorter reuse being better.

The reason Air ele;'s where chosen is they have 1 thing none of these other skills have, xonstant high damage reguardless of health or energy, while also haveing armour penetration.

I've seen a necro idea just like this relying on several necros all hitting the one target for 68 damage vamp gazes which have 100% damage penetration. It's reuse is also quite impressive. The thing here to remember is simple...

If you have 3-4 pople hitting one target with their skills, reguardless if they are the same skill or not, you are going to kill that enemy. It is'nt the type of skill which is killing them it's the team work.

One of the advantages to using the same skill is that a spike is easier to cordinate. For example you can spike using energy burn, lightning orb, and final thrust. However it is far easier to just drop 3 lightning orbs on the target.

I've toyed with this build before, the problem being, of course, prot spirit, and the fact that mesmers die really, really fast. To other mesmers, to rangers, to elementalists, and to warriors.

Like everything else in the game, the build is easier countered- this one by heavily-armored warriors with little mana... however, it is a great build. Props, man.

Oh-

The first rule about the fight club is to NOT TALK ABOUT THE FIGHT CLUB!

Keep it shut... shhhh. ;-) No revealing secret awesomeness builds, like the N/W special I found.

If you can find my toon's name somewhere on the board and you send me a message in game, I might even tell you it. ^_^

Last I checked, mesmer spell damage ignores AL. Not sure about protective spirit though.

Prot Spirit has nothing to do with AL.

Illusionary weaponry is sorta in a "sweet spot." Prot Spirit won't do much to it(mabe 5-10 dmg reduction if they are using a few superior runes) and it will still be going off once a second on a well specced Mesmer. That's 10 hits in 10 seconds to kill someone.

the way to counter IW is to use damage reduction... shielding hands owns IW.... i think it would be important to find out what damage gets hit by damage reduction.

You're a Mesmer. Even if Shielding Hands works on IW (it's worked on everything that I've used it against, so far), you've got tons of ways to break enchantments or stop the Monk from casting it in the first place.

there is no way around protective spirit but to remove it and you are meses after all. mes are the bane of monks by far. just use enchantment drain to negate the prot spirit and drain some energy at the same time. it won't be a problem. but you will need some way of keeping your tank alive. prot spirit works quite well....

I was thinking that you could make a spike group with fire eles? just use mark of rodgort and spells like fire storm that continuosly deal fire damage. that way they are on fire the whole time(massive health degen) and they are taknig damage the whole time. I've been using the char and I kill people 10X easier than any of my other chars.

For the record, this doesn't work; Crystal Wave ignores armor, not prot spirit.
